Marissa Bell is a PhD student in the Department of Geography at University at Buffalo. Her work centers on issues of energy at the nexus of economic, environmental and energy geographies attempting to bridge the physical and human aspects of Geography. Her previous work has focused on nuclear energy with a focus on the changes in perception and media representation of nuclear energy following an extreme event. Marissa centered her Master’s thesis on media discourses in relation to the Fukushima nuclear power plant incident of 2011. Her current work is situated within the broader context of energy transitions and takes multiple energy sources while focusing on state policy and local community discourses.
