Haiti Damage Assessment

On January 12, 2010, a magnitude 7.0 earthquake occurred 16 miles west of Port-Au-Prince, Haiti. In an effort to aid emergency management efforts, members of LESAM participated in a damage assessment. BLM – WEPP/GeoWEPP Distance Learning Modules

The project team develops a series of on-line distance learning modules for the BLM National Training Center that will be offered through the DOI LEARN Course Catalog. IPLER responds to Hurricane Irene and Schoharie Creek Flood

On 8/28/2011 Eastern New York was heavily impacted by Hurricane Irene. Many areas were flooded, buildings destroyed, and travel became impossible.
About a week later, LESAM received permission to tour the area. Our interest was in mapping the extent of the damage and collecting ground truth data. Flood inundation area were modeled using HEC-RAS, and matched with aerial imagery as well as FEMA flood scenarios.
