Abstract: This project will investigate qualitative and quantitative techniques for analyzing the spatial distribution of burnt structures from the 2007 California Wildfires. It will employ remote sensing data and VIEWS in-field datasets to develop a visually-based damage scale for wildfire and map their occurrence. Advanced GIS analysis will be conducted to investigate the variable distributions of damaged buildings. This will result in quantitative damage assessment indices for measuring and monitoring burn occurrence, which in future events could be computed as part of resilient fire response activities.
